Wood or forest products harvested and managed according to the Forest Management Council rules are certified with the FSC certificate.

FSC is an international organization established in 1993 to promote responsible management of the world’s forests. The organization’s mission is to “promote environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world’s forests.

FSC-certified packaging is a popular choice for companies that want to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability and responsible resource management. The FSC label provides customers with a tangible and recognizable symbol of a company’s commitment to the environment. It is often used as a marketing tool to promote environmentally friendly products.

FSC-certified packaging

There are 3 types of FSC-certified:

FSC 100% – all raw materials used in the product are from FSC-certified forests.

FSC Mix – some of the raw materials used in the product are from FSC-certified forests.

FSC Recycled – The product contains a minimum of 70% FSC-certified recycled material.

Packaging materials are available in a wide variety of forms, including FSC-certified paper, cardboard, wood and bioplastic. These materials are widely used in the production of packaging for consumer goods such as food, beverages and personal care.

Although FSC is the most robust certification for forest management, it is not immune from criticism. Some critics say the certification process is expensive and time-consuming for companies. It is argued that the standards set are not stringent enough to ensure that forests are truly managed sustainably.

There are also concerns that the certification process does not adequately address the rights and needs of indigenous peoples, and that it can be used as a “greenwashing” tool by companies to mislead consumers about the environmental impact of their products.

In conclusion, FSC-certified packaging is important for responsible resource management and sustainability. Companies can use this certification to promote their commitment to sustainability and as a marketing tool. However, it is also important to do research before making any decisions, keeping the criticisms in mind.
